Frequently Asked Questions

First, I’d like to thank you for inquiring about a painting. I have put together some frequently asked questions and answers, along with some suggestions.

How long does it take?

That can vary depending on complexity of the composition, size and materials used. The range could be 6 - 8 weeks for a drawing up to a year for a complex larger oil painting.

Can you use my photo?

I prefer to meet the subject in person to get a sense of their personality and character, so I would rather not accept photos not taken by our team unless they meet certain criteria, which cannot be compromised.

What if I don’t know what size I want?

We can help you decide if you are unsure, based on the size of the room you will hang your work of art.

Which is better drawing or oils?

Our drawings are made to last for a lifetime. We use archival materials and take measures to protect the surface. We also offer framing services with museum quality glass. Oil paintings are even more durable and can be cherished heirlooms for generations to come.

What should I wear?

Keeping away from trendy clothes, overly bright colors and fads. Elegance and class is what Classical realism is about.

Do you paint children or pets?

Yes, they are family also. Please allow additional time when using pets or children when scheduling the photo shoot.

Do you take the photos, and is it included?

Yes, the photo shoot is included in the price of the painting. If you live more than 75 miles from the studio (located in Anacoco, Louisiana USA) then you will incur a travel fee based on distance. The photos are property of Durhl Davis Fine Art. If you would like to purchase them, these will be available for a small fee.

When do I need to pay? / What payment methods do you accept?

50% of the total amount is required as a deposit. If a photoshoot is not required, the deposit should be made before the painting process begins. The remaining must be paid before the painting is shipped or delivered. Please note that deposits are non-refundable and payments can be made through cash, PayPal, Zelle, or check.
